Can You Run A Business Without Social Media? 🤔 I'm About To Find Out

Well, as the title states, I’m about to find out—can you run a business without social media?
I’ve actually been wanting to delete social media for a while now, but I kept telling myself it was impossible. I have a business. Actually, I have two. Plus, I teach yoga. So I always thought, you can’t delete social media because you have so much going on, and it’s impossible to run a business without it.
But I started questioning that belief. I’d find myself watching YouTube videos and reading blogs from other entrepreneurs who left social media for inspiration. If you’ve read Burn the Backup Plan, you know I mentioned that one of my biggest regrets was building my business on social media. We all know social media is designed to be addictive. It’s draining, the algorithm is always changing—it’s a lot.
And on a personal level, I just desire more privacy at this stage in life. I don’t want to feel pressured to share intimate moments online just to be “relatable.” I don’t want superficial friendships that only exist because we keep up with each other online. And I absolutely do not want to stress over algorithms and jump through hoops to get views.
Pivoting My Business—and My Online Presence
Another reason this decision feels aligned is because I changed my niche. Well, kind of. I built my social media presence through tarot and astrology content. I was 24 when I started that. Now I’m 31, and of course, I’ve evolved. I still do tarot and astrology, but it’s more of an “if you know, you know” situation. I send tarot and astrology insights to my newsletter (on my main site), I always post that content on Patreon, and readings are still available on my website. So it’s not that I quit—it’s just that my focus has shifted.
Now, I’m fully stepping into teaching nervous system regulation through yoga and talking about entrepreneurship. And when I stopped posting tarot and astrology on social media, my engagement drastically declined. For a while, I felt stuck. On one hand, I get it—people followed me for one thing. On the other hand, my career is naturally evolving, and that’s normal after 5+ years.
So after months of going back and forth, I decided to take the leap and get off social media—at least for now. (Who knows? Maybe I’ll be back in a month. But right now, this feels right.)
The Social Media Detox Begins
Back in October, I felt a lot of pressure, and in the middle of it, I was moving from Las Vegas back to Dallas. So I logged onto Instagram and announced that I was taking a break (I know, corny—DON’T judge me lol). A week later, I was back online—not because I wanted to be, but because I’m a full-time entrepreneur and fear kicked in.
But here’s what’s happened since:
I deleted Facebook a long time ago.
I deleted TikTok in December. (That account had 4,500 followers.) When the ban was lifted, I got back on for a week before deleting it again.
Last week, I deactivated Twitter (which has 11k followers). It will be permanently deleted after 30 days.
I decided Instagram would be my only social media, since I have 63,000 followers. But (at least for now) I don’t want to be on there either. And because I switched niches, my engagement there is already low so it's not like I'm missing anything.
So instead of going back and forth, I'm committing to this social media break.
What’s the Plan Now?
Like anything in life, there’s no “perfect time” to make a change. My other business is already well-established, and when I launched Infinite Abundance Academy (IAA), I never planned to use social media to grow it.
I posted about it once on my Instagram feed and a few times on my stories, but that’s it. And guess what? It’s already doing amazing without it. So now, I’m taking the leap.
So what’s next? We’re about to find out. I’ll keep y’all updated with blog posts on this journey. So many people run successful businesses without social media, and I want to be one of them. It feels aligned with my soul and I feel that alignment is essential for success. So, I’m trusting myself and learning as I go.
That said, here’s where I’m at:
✅ TikTok? Gone.
✅ Twitter? Will be permanently deleted soon.
✅ Instagram? On a 30-day detox (and likely longer).
✅ YouTube? Staying, because I don’t see it as social media. To me, it’s a search engine where I can teach free yoga classes and grow my brand organically.
Don’t get me wrong, I am a social butterfly lol, so after my break, I'll probably return to Instagram. But the goal is to be able to post when I want to, every so often—not because I need it to run my businesses.
What’s Next? (And How to Keep Up With Me!)
I’ll be back with a 30-day update to share my challenges, wins, and lessons learned from running a business without social media.
Most of what I share in IAA comes from what has worked for me in entrepreneurship, so I thought it would be fun to bring y’all on this journey with me. Especially because I know I’m not the only entrepreneur who is tired of social media.
